New Stuff! Empty New Stuff!

Post by Valrogg Fri Apr 01, 2016 8:40 pm

This is a spot where we can post any new shows, games, movies, books, or other such things as recommendations to each other. If you've seen something recently that you'd like to share, feel free to put it up here.
I know I personally will be spending a lot of time on this topic XP

First one for me:

Mahou Tsukai Kurohime
This is a very interesting story, in a world that is equally interesting and actually has a buttload of potential for expansion (My pen hand....twitches!). It's about an incredibly powerful sorceress who dared to challenge the Gods of her universe, and was punished by having her powers removed and being transformed into a small child. She can only recover her powers if she can bring herself to feel love for another person; cue the entry of an idealistic drifter whom she had met ten years prior back into her life. This story is a massive emotional rollercoaster and had me speechless at several moments with its heavy emphasis on adventure and the true meaning of what love and sacrifice is. Not to mention the insane amounts of worldbuilding and mythological reference that the author uses throughout the story (Suffice to say, if you are knowledgeable about Japanese and Chinese folklore, you will enjoy these little tidbits). Personally, I give this story a 9/10.

Of those, I have seen Into the Badlands, and it is fecking amazing. I love the fight scenes and the character interactions, and I simply love the fact that the main theme was composed by Mike Shinoda.

Koe no Kitachi (A Silent Voice)
This series. This freaking series. If you want a definition of a real coming of age story, look no further. Everything in this series is grounded in reality. The characters interact much in the same way real people would, react to things the same way people like you or I would react. This is just pure beauty in writing and character design. I love it, and if it were perhaps just a bit longer I would give it a perfect 10.

Your Lie in April
I believe I told some of you about this at one point, but I thought I should mention it officially in this segment. I first encountered this series at the Grand Rapids Comic-Con, in a room where they were showing various anime. I loved it instantly, and due to its subject matter I immediately recommended it to my brother and younger cousin....and then promptly regretted this decision in its entirety after watching it to the end. This is the closest that a slice-of-life series has gotten to the top of my list, it is beautiful in all aspects. As a word of warning, however, this series will make you cry like a small child!
It follows a middle school student named Kousei who used to be a prodigy of a piano player until a traumatic incident made him stop playing altogether. He finds his spark of inspiration again when he meets Kaori, a violinist with a fire in her heart that makes others pale in comparison. What follows is a story that managed to tug at my heartstrings until the breaking point, leaving my shattered soul upon the floor for me to pick up the pieces. No story before has moved me in such a way. I definitely recommend everyone on this site to watch it (except you, Alex, since you've already seen it) but I will warn you again--You WILL feel.
Tenouttaten for this one. It's that good.
